Presidential Campaign 2016

Once every four years, the United States holds an election for the President of the United States.  According to the Constitution, presidents are limited to two terms, or a total of 8 years.  Our next election for president will be in November 2016 and since President Obama has already served two terms, the United States will elect a new president.

November 2016 may seem like a long ways off (8th graders will be sophomores, 7th grades will be in their freshman year of high school, and the 6th graders will be the 8th graders of St. Joe’s) but campaigning for the position is already underway.  Over the past few weeks a number of candidates have come forward to announce their presidential campaign.  This week announcements were made by former First Lady and Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton and
Florida Senator Marco Rubio.  Over the past few weeks we have heard from Ted Cruz, Rand Paul, and others.  This is just the beginning.  In the coming weeks, more candidates from both parties are expected to announce their intentions.

Since from this election will be a new president, the nominating process will be extensive.  Beginning in January of 2016, each party will hold primary elections.  The intention is for each party to determine the best candidate for the position.  Each candidate will be scrutinized and evaluated about every aspect of their lives and their positions on issues ranging from immigration to same-sex marriage, from Vladimir Putin to Israel.  No stone will go unturned.  At the conclusion of the primaries, there will be one candidate from each major party.  They will choose a running mate for vice president and hit the campaign trail, again.

Do you think it is necessary to start this process 18 months before the election?  Is it an effective way for Americans to become familiar with the candidates or does it distract the government from dealing with issues facing our country?  What do you believe are the most important issues facing the president in the world today? What qualities do you think would make the best president for the 2016 election?

  1. I think it's pretty necessary for the election process to start but only because of the people's part. I think that the reason there starting the election process so early is because of all the hype and stuff and so that the people in the United States of America can have a chance to have a long time to think about which president they are going to vote for. It is sort've both actually. It helps American citizens become more familiar with the candidates that are running, and it does kinda distract the government at the same time. It makes the government have to deal with the angry people and stuff so its a pretty big distraction. I think that an important issue the president is trying to address is all our military scattered across the world in my opinion. I think some qualities should have are: he/she should give the people some freedom to choose some things, they should be very available to the press so the country can get to know the new president better, and the new president should have a good background. I think we as the people of the United States of America will make the right decision on the new president of 2016. We just have to be careful on who we vote for.

  2. I do think that it is necessary to start this process 18 months before the election. They need some time to be able to start the process to start the whole entire thing. I think that we should become familer with the candidates because becoming a president is very hard work. There are probaty lots and lots of paper work that you will fill out. Becoming a president is all about changing the world. Not just being able to live in the White House. I think that those girls that were kidnapped. Just because they were christens. Also those soldiers who are still in afangistand at lest I think. There are always mabey bad things that are going to happen in this country these days. That is just life. But being a president is very hard work. You have to deal with all those things that are happening in life. With a lot of people who might not like you. A lot of people depending on you to be able to sovle the problems. I don't have any qualities one the election. I just hope that they won't have the same idea like the guy who President Obma was running against. I don't really have an interest of voting I just go with what ever happens.

  3. I think that it is very necessary to start this process 18 months before the election. As Americans we need to choose the president who would best represent us and I think that it is important to start now so we decide the best candidate without making any mistakes. I think that it is a very effective way to get to know the candidates and see what they have to offer for this country. However if we let this candidate process get in the way of our country's other problems then it can be a distraction. I think that the most important issues that our government is facing today is poverty, same-sex marriages, and still some mix- ups with blacks and whites. Presidency is a very difficult job and I think that to be up for the job you need to have some qualities that a lot of people could follow as an example. Some of those qualities is that to be president you can't play favorites over democrats and republicans and always take one side. You also can't spend time on only one problem that the US is facing. Presidents should also make sure that they hear everyone's opinion and always make a decision that would benefit the country as a whole. A lot goes into deciding a president and I think that we are doing a great job of deciding who would be the best candidates.

  4. I think it is necessary for the process of the election to begin 18 months before. So the Americans can learn and find a decision about who they want to vote for. If that candidate doesn't win then you know whats coming. If you were the candidate that became president you would mostly have to worry about war and the poor. I am not really into elections and all this presidency stuff. But I do know that the president should be fair and equal amongst the people. That president should also be smart and not make bad choices. They also need to be very good at being a symbol of our country. That is what I think about the election and president of 2016.

  5. I think that it is necessary to start 18 months early because there is a lot, and I mean a lot of stuff that we need to know before we can honestly choose who we think can lead our country best for the next 4, possibly 8 years. It is comforting to know that you chose a candidate that you believe will serve our country to the best of their ability. I am not entirely sure whether or not it is supped to distract the government, but whether it does or doesn't effect the government, it doesn't really phase the people. I was watching the news the other day and they mentioned the elections briefly once then went on with their regular program. Not many people seem distracted about it. The main issues facing our government today are equality for African Americans, homosexuality, the war in the middle east, healthcare, and many others. Some good qualities that I personally would like to see in our next president are that he/she has to think long-term: in military actions especially, make logical decisions based on fact and reason after consulting with Congress or someone else: just having good communication in general really, honesty: we need to know what is going on so that we can do something about it, and open with the public: have speeches and such so that we know what that person thinks about certain situations and stuff. These would be ideal in a president, but we just need to be wise in our decisions and choose who we think is right for our country. It is a very important decision after all. We must choose with caution.

  6. I think it is necessary to start 18 months early because you have to know about the president before you elect them, and they will run the country for maybe 8 years. yes I think its an effective way because like I said we should know about the president before we elect them. I think the president should be fair and equal amongst the people and should listen to other ideas.

  7. I think that you should start the process early because you need all the time you can get to get ready for the election. This is an effective way because if we know the candidates then we can start to make up our minds and not have to know the candidates right before the election. I think the problem that the government needs to worry about is the terrorist attacks because people want to live in a safe and secure place. I think the president needs to address the current issues including education and health care.

  8. I think that it is indeed necessary to start the election process 18 months early. That gives the candidate plenty of time to let the people know who he is and what his policies are. The people also get to figure out his opinions on all the political problems of the U.S.( i. e. Russia, Iran, african americans, etc.) Like Riley mentioned it doesn't distract anybody really, the news just moves on after a quick report. It's also really important to figure out which of the candidates will do the best job he or she can do and will work his or her hardest to ensure the safety and well-being of our country. Some of the biggest issues facing President Obama include the african-american mess, the Iranian nuclear deal, and same sex marriage. I think that we need to have a president that is very good and effective at communicating, is good at executing decisions, and is a firm, but fair negotiater.

  9. I think its necessary for the people so they can vote earlier. To make a good president is to be able to do your work. If you cant do your part your work how would that benefit the people. You also have to be very serious with what you are doing. You don't want to do something that will harm other people.

  10. I think it is a very great way to promot yourself even 18 months before the election, But it does matter a fact ,take away a lot of our focus coming from the ISIS,etc. I think our government needs to put more focus to these things to make us citizens feel safe and in a good enviornment. I think a good president would make up these five facors 1.intelegent 2.trustworthy 3. loyal 4. understanding 5. symapthtic
of course there is more, but they almost always fall between those lines. As citizens, we need to be wise and choose carefully.

  11. I think that it is necessary to start the election 18 months early because it gives the people an idea of what the policies are and gives them a well thought out vote. Also it gives the people a better chance for a better solution and may help make the country a better place. And it gives you a really good chance to think about it. And they can discuss more about what there ideas were for problems out of the country. And figure out what you think will help the country! and it gives you an idea for a good educated president, effective ,and good at communicating and good at making decisions!!

  12. I think is necessary to start 18 months before the election because you need time to warm up to the people. I also feel if the people don't know the candidates they probably won't trust you and eventual won’t vote for them. I think does a little bit of both it gives you time to become familiar with the candidates and the candidates will be asked question about everything happing in our world. Americans will get many aspects of our country and world problems. There are many issues in the world I think when people are getting hurt, dying, or are going to die it is the biggest problem. I think ISIS, education, and whether or not to let people have drugs or not are some problems that are going to face the president. I think the president has to be in touch with younger people with social network. I also think the president has to be classy enough for the older and milled age people. Thirdly I think the president must be confident when taking about the touchy subject and he/she must be a good speaker.

  14. I think we should start the election process 18 months before the election because it gives you a chance to make up your mind about who you really want. With this much time, voters can learn who is responsible enough to be the president of the United States. The main issues facing our government are same-sex marriages, war, healthcare, and poverty. Those are the main reasons. I think that some necessary qualities of a president has to be trustworthy, loyal, and be smart enough to make intelligent decisions.

  15. I think it is necessary to start your campaign 18 months before the election because if you want to get votes the people have to know how you will run the country and how you view the current problems they also need to know how to solve problems in a just way. I think the government does get distracted during the campaign but that is the time that we should really look at the candidates and decide who to vote for based on their character and leadership skills because if the government gets distracted then the the new president gets elected he will already have a test of all his characteristics and how he will deal with the issues the former president left behind will really tell us whether we made the right decision or not 5 things this president will need to be successful 1. problem solver 2. understanding 3. intelligent 4. leadership 5. negotiation and communication skills

  16. I think it should be like 15 months because 18 is just a little to much. 15 months is still enough time to figure out who they want to choose. the big problems with the election of presidency is that it takes time from everything else that is wrong. I personally don't know what would make a good president.

  17. I do think that it is a good idea to start the campaign 18 months before elections because you will have more time for people to get to know you. This would help get you more votes if those people like your ideas and certain things they believe in. I do think that it's an effective way for the people to get to know the canidates, because this way, the people will learn the ideas and concerns. If the people like these and other things about the canidate, it could result in tons of people voting for that canidate. I think the most important issues facing the president today are ISIS, war, poverty, and same-sex marriage. I think the nessacary qualities for a president are that they have to be loyal, have smart decision making skills, is a good speaker, and is not afraid to do risky things. There are of course more too, but i believe that those are the most important.

  18. I think it is a good idea to start the campaign 18 months before elections so the people can get to know who's running. Knowing the thoughts and beliefs of the people who are running is very important because we're choosing to lead our country. I also agree that they may pay too much attention to the campaigns. I think they should spend a lot of their time worrying about general problems and slowly increase the rush of the campaigns. I think for a good president they have to have many qualities. They should be loyal, smart, looks at all sides of a problem, kind, willing to meet the peoples needs, and wise.

  19. I think it is very necessary for us to start the presidential election so soon because there are so many problems that need to be addressed. It also gives us time to figure out the presidents personality and what he's going to do for us as a president. I think qualities of the president are going to be picking up where President Obama left off. They need to continue things like Obama care food stamps and other things to take care of the poor because if they don't a lot of people are going to be left in the open. One of the problems that President Obama is facing today is debating on whether or not to open up trade with Cuba. I think it is going to be really cool interesting to see if we have a democratic or republican President because right now the Republicans will the party and I believe that if they have a lot of different ideas clashing., There is going to be able to feuding because both the president and the majority leader have a lot of power.

  20. I think its a good idea so that we have two years to get to know the candidates. I think it gives the people a good idea of the candidate will be facing if he or she is president. I think the biggest issue is Russia and Putin, because their jets are flying into a lot of countries airspaces without telling them. They also basically invaded crimea. I think it would be could if the person was aggressive and wouldn't let other countries just bully others but doesn't get involved in every political affair of other countries.

  21. I don't think we should start eighteen months before the election. I think twelve months is fine. we could use the other eight months on other important issues. A year and a half is a little excessive. What if the Twin Towers tragedy happened in those eighteen months. We would definitely pay way more attention to that than an election. A year is more than enough time for the candidates to give speeches and to meet the people. I think some qualities that a good president should have are the desire for world peace and to care for our country while not harming any other countries. Therefore I hope that eventually we change from eighteen months to a year.

  22. I honestly don't really care about who the president is because if I did I could not even share my opinion. Obama is president, bla, bla, bla, who cares. The only thing I want the president to do id not be an idiot. But no i do not feel the need for the process to start so early. I think it distracts everybody. I have no idea cause i don't pay ANY attention to the president. that is the adults job. if i don't get to vote, give me one reason why i should care. isa all he needs to do is motivate america, otherwise i don't care who he is or what he is like

  23. I think it is a good idea to start two years early so that we have time to decide and see what they will really do to improve our country. But i think that it destracts the country from our big issues. Our biggest issues withen the country are discriminating against afriacan americans and homosexuality and a lot of other things. I think that the president should pay attention to the big things but also the the little things that are big in their own way. I also think that the issues of certain communities should be left in the communities to their local government because the government can not be certain what goes into this factor. The president should also take some notice how we are destroying our earth. I am 11 and before the end of my lifetime some serious changes are going to have to be made if we are going to be able to still live on this planet. I think that the president should pay attention to all issues.

  24. I disagree with Monty. I think he is underestimating the importance of the Presidential Election. 18 months seems like a fine time frame for the election. To me, the United State's Presidential Elections is the election for one of, or if not, the most powerful person on the planet. I think current issues will be presented in the news but the news might be kind of dull because all the focus and drama is made towards the Election. To me, again, the most urgent and current issues within the US is pollution/low amounts of resources, unemployment, and white on black crime. Some qualities in a good President would be: non-biased, educated, understanding and accepting, and fair to all races and ethnicities.

  25. I don't think that we need an 18 month process before the election. Maybe the candidates need that much time to prepare themselves, but not publicly. If like 4 months before the elections we started the process publicly that would be better. Yes I do think it is an effective way, if the citizens don't know about the candidates the can't make a good judgment of who to vote for. I think some big issues facing the president today are war and abortion. A good president would be if they knew what was fair.

  26. I think that having !8 months before the election is a very good idea. This way people can decide what canidate they want for the next 2 or 8 years. If people only have four months than how are they going to have good judgment? This way, people have a long time to decide and talk. It also gives the canidates time to show everybody who they are and what they represent. I think it is a very efficient way to get to know the canidates and know the qualities they will give. I do not think that the election is distracting our government, if anything it is distracting the people. I do not think that elections are distracful. I am not so much into the election, I leave that to my parents.... But if I where to have a president, I would make sure they where Nice, caring, make good choices for the country, intelligent, smart and well grounded

  27. I think that starting the process early helps everyone in the country as well as the government. I think that it helps the people get to know who they want to be president and it helps them form fair ad just opinions. I think that it helps the government by giving them a perspective on what their new leader will do and change. The eighteen month process is also good for the candidates because it gives them time to make their qualities, ideas, and beliefs known. I think that one of the biggest issues facing the government and the president him/her self is the fight over same sex marriage. It is such a big fight because if the president is on one side or the other it might cause a lot of controversy. Some qualities i think a president should have are that they are fair with every party and that they can put the peoples GOOD ideas into action.

  28. It is alway good to prepare but to do it 18 months before the election.Yes because it lets all the people in the United state know about who may be their next leader.Debt,Obama has got the US in a deep hole with 3 trillion dollars in debt. The next president will want to help us get to of the hole we have dug are selves.

  29. it is always good to get to know the canadates a little bit but 18 months before the election is a little to early. yes I think it is good for the people to get to know the canadates and what things they might do. The president is dealing with weather or not to send troops to take down Isis.

  30. I think it is a good idea to start the campaign eighteen months before election. I think it is a good idea because it gives people more time to really get to know the candidates. It is also a little early because there will be a lot of debate for a very long period and it will get annoying and old. I think over all though, it is a good idea. I think the most important issues facing the presidency today is the black race and the police. The best qualities I think would be the best for the upcoming 2016 president is to take all peoples problems. To be honest with everyone, even if the honesty from the president is bad. Not just to take problems in our country into consideration but other countries too. Our upcoming president could really be an upgrade for our political world.

  31. Think it is good to stared the process because people can stared voting and making decision now not later because it will not be a big rush and not delayed or hold back.I think it distracting of the government because it hold back everything they are doing and not helping American.I think what is the hardest problem is for the president is the resource and taxes and many things like that.I think the sould be kind caring and help others also make sure american is safe and good.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I think it isn't good to start raising awareness that early. Let's say someone is the president and he/she wants to run again, instead of focusing on the worlds issues he's out there trying to get voters attention. In my opinion the biggest issues facing the president is being able to make people work together, that is the best trait to have because if congress is together so is America.
    Sorry this is late😬
